GM Cricket Bats 2021 - New Range Overview

Hi Readers! Happy New Year and welcome to the Cricket Store Online Blog in 2021. We hope this year you fulfill your cricketing goals and we’re always here to make them come true for you. Keep following our blog throughout the year to stay updated about the latest and greatest cricket gear that we have to offer.

In this blog, we will talk about the types of GM Cricket Bats 2021 and the overall range that we have available in our Cricket Store Online. We’re excited to have the newest and latest GM cricket bats available for sale for you to get ready for this year’s cricket season. Throughout this blog, we will walk you through each and every bat model in detail and provide recommendations for you based on your needs and preferences.

First up is a little bit of history about GM and why you should consider buying a GM bat over other brands. GM stands for Gunn and Moore and was established back in 1885 by an English test batsman William Gunn. Since then, several notable cricketers have endorsed GM, most notably featured by Ben Stokes in the World Cup 2019 Final, Quinton De Kock, Ross Taylor, and even former legendary cricketers such as Steve Waugh and Anil Kumble. Known specifically for their cricket bats, GM has the most technologically advanced factory in the world and takes pride in continuous innovation with their cricket bats. This year’s range is their best so far, so let’s get into it.

Mostly all GM Bats come with GM NOW! & Toe Tek TM finish (The 303 range only has Toe TekTM). GM NOW! means every GM Bat will be “knocked in” by the batmaker in house, will have raw linseed oil protection to reduce cracking and splitting by maintaining the blade’s moisture level, and will have clear anti-scuff cover on the blade and edges to increase blade durability. Toe Tek TM toe guard is applied on every GM bat to reduce toe damage and feathering that is often caused by tapping at the crease.

If you have been to our Cricket Store Online website and searched for GM Bats, you probably noticed that there are lots of ranges and models available for purchase. To understand which GM bat best fits your needs, we will first walk you through the nine different qualities of GM Bats:

  1. Original L.E. - This is GM’s absolute best offering with seasoned Grade 1 English Willow. These bats are individually tested and go through an extremely selective process for the best grain structure and ideal weight. These are very rarely available and if you don’t find them in our store, please feel to contact us and we can always place an order for you directly with the manufacturer at a good discount.
  2. Original - This GM quality is right next to Original L.E. with seasoned Grade 1 English Willow and a great alternative if you’re unable to find Original L.E. These bats are predominantly straight grained with a hint of color and minor cosmetic blemishes. We have quite a few Original quality bats available for GM in different ranges.
  3. Signature L.E. and 909 - These two GM qualities are similar to the Original offering as they also come with seasoned Grade 1 English Willow. They rank slightly lower than the first two in terms of overall quality but are still 5 star performance bats just like the first two.
  4. 808, 707, and Signature - These three GM qualities are in the mid tier of GM offerings with seasoned Grade 2 English Willow.
  5. 606 and 404 - These two GM qualities are in the low end tier of GM offerings with seasoned Grade 3 English Willow and also in the more economical range of GM bats.
  6. 303 - This GM offering is at the bottom tier of GM offerings with seasoned Grade 4 English Willow and only comes with Toe Tek TM finish (All other qualities from 1 to 5 come with Toe Tek TM finish and GM NOW! protection).

We would like to note here that bats in the 606, 404, and 303 GM quality are ideally suited for beginners, or for your early training needs. You may use these bats for game days as well but we recommend higher quality. For instance, anything from 808, 707, and Signature qualities are great economical options for your game day needs. Lastly, anything in the 909, Signature L.E., and Original qualities are highly recommended by us if you want the best out of your game and get the best durability and performance from your bat.

Now that you have a very basic understanding of GM bat qualities, we will walk you through all the different models that we have available. Each model is different and can be selected based on your batting preferences, such as lower order batting that could rely on big-hitting, middle-overs batting that could rely on running between the wickets and occasional boundaries, and early-overs batting that could rely on pure timing and footwork to negotiate the new ball. All 2021 GM Bats come equipped with GM’s Let’s walk through all the different models and keep in mind that each of these models are available in each of the qualities mentioned above:

  1. 1. GM Diamond Bat

This has been the best selling GM bat as this is popularly known as the 2019 World Cup winning bat used by Ben Stokes. This bat comes with a traditional full blade profile and mid swell position for overall stroke play. Endorsed by Ben Stokes himself, this bat comes equipped with a Terrain Grip and is usually available in the medium weight category (anywhere from 2.9 to 2.12). We would highly recommend this bat for a top order batsman looking to build a long innings and can consistently rely on the performance and the durability of the bat.

The concave back profile enhances pick up and makes hitting the ball early in the game easier to get a quick start for your team. Equipped with a Hex Grip, we would highly recommend this bat for a hard hitting batsman looking to get a quick start for their team. This bat is usually available in the medium weight category (anywhere from 2.9 to 2.12).

This is another new 2021 bat that GM has introduced for the batsmen who rely on timing and placement to build their innings. Like Diamond and Siren bats, this bat also has a shortened blade length and a longer handle. This bat is known for its sweeping spine profile which provides exceptional pick up and feel to quickly adjust to fast pace bowling. Like Icon bats, Noir also has a longer blade and a shorter handle length, more similar to traditional bats. However, Icon bats are better suited for a traditional batsman whereas Noir bats are far better for a hard hitting batsman looking to clear the ball out of the park at the end of the innings. Produced with power in mind, the low to mid swell position and the huge pronounced edges in the drive zone will ensure that the ball will travel far and fast even if it catches an edge. The light grip adds a nice balance to the bat if you’re looking for light weight bats. With a low to mid swell position for allround power play, this lightweight bat is recommended for batsmen looking to play aggressive shots all over the ground but need a lighter bat to swing around.

We would recommend Chroma Bat for the same folks who would use a Noir or a Diamond but prefer lighter bats.
