Robin Williams and Cricket

The world has been mourning the loss of one of the best comedians. There are few people in the English speaking world that have not laughed because of Robin Williams and believe it or not he had a point of view when it came to cricket too.

It is recorded that Robin Williams once remarked that "cricket is baseball on Valium." The man was a true genius and a great comic and deeply missed but I am sure a few cricket fans would have to disagree with that one.

Valium is an anxiety drug that brings on a state of calm. There may be one or two cricketers who would more likely script that Robin Williams statement that "cricket is baseball on steroids."

Dale Steyn, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni all in their different manners and styles can produce spells of batting and bowling of sheer mania. Then there are those that are less cautious with the mania they cause on the cricket field, Kieron Pollard, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Johnson. As a sport baseball has been on a steady decline of fans, losing fans to the less time consuming sports while with the advent of T20 cricket, cricket is seeing a major surge.

From the people of the gentlemans game, we wish our condolences to a man who was truly a gentleman of life. May the soul of Robin Williams rest in peace.
